Susan Grajek is Senior Director for Client Support in Yale University’s Information Technology Services. Susan is responsible for the operations of ITS’s Help Desk, Accounts and Access, and Desktop Support Program. Client Support is also responsible for the planning and delivery of a wide range of personal computing technologies and for representing clients’ needs and interests in many of ITS’s core infrastructure technologies, including email, calendaring and backup.

Her current interests and initiatives include the introduction and implementation of ITIL, a framework for managing and delivering IT services, and the development of a comprehensive program to manage workstations and their support to increase the security of data distributed throughout Yale and to simplify the maintenance of desktop, laptop and mobile devices.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Susan has been at Yale since 1979, when she arrived as a graduate student in Psychology. Upon completion of her Ph.D., she joined the Yale Computer Center in the User Services department, where she worked as liaison to the faculty and supervised the Help Desk. After the birth of her first son in 1988, she began working part-time and moved to the School of Medicine, where she worked in the Office of Academic Computing, serving as a co-investigator for needs assessment and evaluation research for the School’s IAIMS implementation. When computing services at the School were consolidated in 1996, Susan was responsible for IT metrics and communications for the new ITS-Med department. In 2000, she resumed full-time work at Yale and led ITS-Med’s support group until the IT integration led to her current appointment as senior director for university-wide IT support in 2005.

In addition to her IT management work, Susan has had special assignments allowing her to make non-IT contributions to Yale. In 1998 She developed the framework for a staff performance development and evaluation program that was adopted by the School of Medicine’s administration. She conducted two assessment of administrative effectiveness at Yale, one for the School of Medicine in 1998 and one for the entire University in 2005. She has an ongoing appointment as a Lecturer in Yale’s Department of Epidemiology and School of Public Health, where she taught a data management course for several years. In 2002, Yale’s Vice President of Finance and Administration appointed her as a consultant to review Yale’s administrative structure and organization. She served as Associate Chair for Yale’s 2004 United Way campaign. Also in 2004, she contributed to Yale’s efforts to improve labor relations by serving on its Best Practices Communications Team.
